What is Stripe?

Stripe is a quick and secure way to accept credit card payments online. Stripe's seamless integration makes it very easy to process payments almost instantly. You can learn more at www.stripe.com.

How does Stripe process payments?

Stripe automatically processes all transactions for you. Once your Stripe account is integrated, you will be able to accept payments immediately. Funds from all purchases and transactions will be automatically added to your bank account within seven days.
 


When and how does Stripe transfer money into my account?

Stripe will pay you for charges on a seven day rolling basis. For example, you will receive funds for your March 1st charges on March 8th. Within your dashboard, you can view all transfers from Stripe to your bank account. Click here for more information on transfers from Stripe.
 


Is Stripe PCI-Compliant? Is SSL offered with Commerce?

Yes and yes! Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified author and has been certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider. Stripe has security information regarding this. Checkout and payment pages are served over SSL in your Commerce site.
 


Will fraudulent orders or cards be rejected?

Stripe maintains Fraud Prevention by detecting suspicious activity, such as repeated orders, and rejecting the transaction. Additionally, Stripe works with its financial partners and credit card networks to monitor fraud globally.
 


How much does Stripe cost?

Stripe charges 2.9% + 30 cents per successful transaction.  

Refunds are free -- The transaction fee for the charge will be returned to you if you need to refund a customer.

How does Stripe handle disputes?

Do I need a Business ID?

No, you don't. Stripe is built for all kinds of businesses, including individuals who may not have a tax ID. When you activate your account, you can skip the EIN field altogether.

How do I issue refunds?

This can be done through your Stripe account!  

You can issue refunds at any time by looking up the charge in your Stripe dashboard and issuing the refund there. Depending on your customer's bank, he or she will see the refund show up anywhere between 1 and 7 business days later.

To refund a charge from the Stripe dashboard, you can either hover over the charge in the payments overview and click the grey “Refund” link that appears, or go to the specific charge page and click on the grey “Refund” button in the upper right.

Refunds can be whole or partial – that is, you can refund any amount up to the original amount of the charge.

You can issue a refund at any time up to 90 days after the charge, but as the time since the charge increases it becomes more likely that certain circumstances may cause a refund to fail - for example if the card has expired.
